What matters
Do not squash risen rolls or the developed air escapes.
Air fryer cheese rolls with homemade yeast dough and Gouda. Allow two rises for a lighter crumb and add the cheese topping partway through baking.
Why this recipe works
Four small rolls fit with gaps in a wide basket. Timing assumes this; smaller appliances need extra batches. Preparation includes 60 and 20 minutes rising and ten minutes cooling.
Recipe
Air fryer cheese rolls with homemade yeast dough and Gouda. Allow two rises for a lighter crumb and add the cheese topping partway through baking.
Mix flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Add lukewarm water and butter, knead about 8 minutes. Cover and rise about 60 minutes until clearly expanded.
Divide into four equal pieces and round. Space on a suitable tray, rise again about 20 minutes and brush thinly with milk. Grate Gouda and reserve.
If required by the manufacturer, preheat for 3 minutes at 170 °C. Bake initially about 10 minutes at 170 °C. Add Gouda and bake about another 8 minutes at 170 °C. Cheese colour alone does not show dough doneness. Use a heatproof dish suitable for the appliance, leaving space around it for airflow. Do not preheat with loose paper.
Cool on a rack about 10 minutes. A cut roll should show set crumb without raw dough. If needed, bake longer before cooling.
