What matters
Chilled dough slices cleanly without squeezing filling out.
Air fryer puff pastry pinwheels with crème fraîche, cooked ham and onion. Precook the onion, chill the roll and bake the slices in two batches.
Why this recipe works
Eight small pinwheels make four snack servings. The filling recalls flammkuchen, but the dough is puff pastry. Chilling, cooling and two baking batches are included.
Recipe
Air fryer puff pastry pinwheels with crème fraîche, cooked ham and onion. Precook the onion, chill the roll and bake the slices in two batches.
Finely chop onion and soften in oil for about 5 minutes. Cool on a plate for 10 minutes. Finely dice ham.
Lay pastry about 24 × 20 cm. Spread thinly with crème fraîche, add onion, ham and pepper. Roll from the long side and chill 10 minutes, then cut eight slices.
If required by the manufacturer, preheat for 3 minutes at 170 °C. In two batches place four pinwheels cut side up on a suitable shallow tray. Bake each batch about 12 minutes at 170 °C until pastry layers are no longer raw inside. Use a heatproof dish suitable for the appliance, leaving space around it for airflow. Do not preheat with loose paper.
Release with a wide spatula and avoid touching hot filling. Serve two small pinwheels each as a snack.
