What matters
Silken tofu is too soft to skewer reliably.
Air fryer tofu satay skewers with a separate peanut sauce. Press and marinate firm plain tofu, then roast; keep the sauce for serving.
Why this recipe works
Four skewers make two tofu servings without rice. Pressing and marinating are included. This is a simple satay-inspired version; short metal skewers must suit the air fryer.
Recipe
Air fryer tofu satay skewers with a separate peanut sauce. Press and marinate firm plain tofu, then roast; keep the sauce for serving.
Press tofu gently between clean towels in the refrigerator about 20 minutes. Cut cubes about 2.5 cm. Mix oil, soy, garlic and cumin and marinate tofu chilled about 10 minutes.
Divide tofu over four suitable short metal skewers. Mix peanut butter, lemon, water and sugar smoothly in a clean bowl. Do not spread this thick sauce on the skewers.
If required by the manufacturer, preheat for 3 minutes at 180 °C. Roast spaced apart about 14 minutes at 180 °C, turning after 7 minutes. Tofu should be hot throughout. Follow pack heating instructions if different.
Handle hot metal skewers only with gloves. Serve two each with peanut sauce and slide tofu off before eating.
