What matters
Sweetened coconut browns differently. This recipe uses unsweetened coconut.
Air fryer coconut prawns with a fine breadcrumb coating. Dry thawed raw prawns before breading and watch the coconut as it browns.
Why this recipe works
Use large raw prawns with shells and tails removed. A thin breadcrumb and coconut layer adheres better than a thick coat. No dip is included; the nutrition estimate conservatively counts all prepared breading.

Check the prawns for any remaining vein and pat thoroughly dry. Beat the egg; put flour and the coconut-crumb mixture on separate plates.
Mix salt and pepper into the crumbs. Coat prawns in flour, egg and coconut crumbs. Press gently and lightly oil the outside.
If required by the manufacturer, preheat for 3 minutes at 180 °C. Cook in one loose layer for about 12 minutes at 180 °C, turning carefully after 6 minutes. If browning too quickly, continue at a lower temperature.
Prawn flesh must be fully opaque and the egg coating cooked through. Serve immediately with clean utensils; discard loose raw breading leftovers. Check that the thickest part reaches at least 70 °C for 2 minutes; continue cooking if needed.
