Why this recipe works

Crispy shell and loose potato seed

Aluminium foil is not necessary for a crispy oven potato and would dampen the shell rather. Similar heavy tubers cook calculable together. Whether the center is soft, shows a thin knife: It should slide to the center without noticeable resistance.

Tips for Air Fryer Baked Potatoes

Similar heavy tubers

Four potatoes with comparable weight become soft at the same time. Very large pieces need much more time.

Do not wrap in foil

Foil holds steam on the shell and prevents the desired dry, crispy surface.

Cooking sample to the middle

The shell can look finished, although the center is still firm. Use a thin knife to check into the centre.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ about Air Fryer Baked Potatoes

A potato weighing about 280 g takes about 43 to 48 minutes at 195 °C. Size and variety change the time.

No. Without foil, the shell becomes crispy. Foil retains moisture and produces a soft skin.

Steam can escape through small openings, which reduces the risk of the shell bursting when cooking.

Floating potatoes become particularly loose inside. Predominantly waxy varieties remain somewhat more compact.

Yes. At 180 °C, completely heat for about 8 to 12 minutes; add cold herb quark only afterwards.
