Satay ayam are Indonesian chicken skewers with spicy marinade and creamy peanut sauce. Chicken leg meat remains particularly juicy on the grill or pan.

    Marinating chicken

    Mix chicken with Kecap Manis, garlic, coriander, turmeric, lime juice and salt. Let stand for at least 30 minutes.

    Cooking sauce

    Warm the peanut butter with coconut milk or water, sambal, some Kecap Manis, salt, sugar and lime slowly and stir until smooth.

    Sticking skewers

    Place chicken pieces on moistened skewers. Do not stick too tight to cook evenly.

    Grilling or roasting

    Grill skewers, grill pan or pan for 8 to 10 minutes and turn regularly.

    Serve with peanut sauce, cucumber, lime and rice if desired.
