Why this recipe works

Browned sausage without splash on the stove

The air fryer is suitable for small amounts of frying sausages, because fat can drain and the skin gets dry heat from all sides. The sausage should not be cut in or punctured: Discontinued meat juice dries out the filling. In case of very fatty sausages, some water in the lower drawer can reduce smoke if the appliance manufacturer allows this.

Method

  1. 1

    Tempering sausages

Remove frying sausage from the refrigerator 10 minutes before cooking and pat dry. Do not pierce or cut.

  2. 2

    Preparing Device

Preheat air fryer to 180 °C. In case of lean sausages, oil the basket very thin; fatty sausages do not need any extra oil.

  3. 3

    Apply loosely

Put sausages side by side in the basket with some distance. They must not be stacked or directly on the heating element.

  4. 4

    Cooking First Page

Cook at 180 °C for 7 minutes. Open the drawer carefully and turn the sausages with a pliers.

  5. 5

    Prepared cooking

Cook for another 5 to 9 minutes. At the thickest point, test at least 72 °C internal temperature; also fully cook poultry bratwurst.

  6. 6

Let it rest for a while

Let the sausages rest for 2 minutes and serve with mustard, parsley, cabbage salad and bread rolls as desired.

Tips for Air Fryer Bratwurst

Do not sting

The skin holds juice and fat in the sausage. Holes allow fluid to leak out and also increase smoke generation.

Measure the internal temperature

A browned skin does not say anything about the centre. The thermometer leads sideways to the middle of the thickest sausage.

Avoid smoke

Remove deposits in the device and clean the drawer after each serving. Note manufacturer's instructions for collecting fat.
